NOSE SHOP SLOPE store by Insideout

The NOSE SHOP was launched in 2017 by entrepreneur Yuki Nakamori and his company BIOTOPE INC at a time when the niche fragrance market in Japan was hugely underdeveloped. Offering a wide range of niche fragrance brands from home and abroad, the retailer changed the game, and now operates no less than fourteen multibrand stores across Tokyo‘s sprawling metropolitan area and in Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka and Sapporo. Still, the company sees room for growth in the Japanese capital, opening a new store on the premises of Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO‘s new multi-storey flagship store in Harajuku. Housed in a five-storey building from the late 1960s, the latter flagship store occupies the first four floors, while the new NOSE SHOP, officially called NOSE SHOP SLOPE, named after its design concept, is housed on the top floor.

The interior design of the flagship store is created by legendary designer Yasuhiro Mihara himself in collaboration with architect Hiroto Kubo of local practice Insideout, and interestingly, each floor has a design concept, such as Counter for the ground floor, featuring an elongated marble counter. The concept for the second floor is Glass, which sees a setting with glass walls. As its name implies, NOSE SHOP SLOPE, has Slope as concept, captured by a herringbone parquet floor which forms a gentle slope, creating a sense of fluctuation in the visual and balance senses. The new NOSE SHOP SLOPE stocks 200 carefully curated range of fragrances from 27 brands, including Nishane, Arquiste, État Libre d’Orange, Goldfield & Banks, Laboratorio Olfattivo, Stora Skuggan. © superfuture
