Based in Berlin, FORMEL+SKIN was founded in 2019 by trained dermatologist Sarah Bechstein, Florian Semler and Anton Kononov. As a medically grounded skincare brand, the company initially started operations online, standing out in the crowded and highly competitive beauty landscape with a diagnostic approach—customers complete a medical questionnaire, upload images of their skin, and receive a personalised treatment plan. And now, FORMEL+SKIN has upped the ante, elevating the customer experience by opening up shop in the buzzing Mitte district of the German capital. Occupying no less than 245 sqm. (2,637 sq.ft.) on the ground floor of a modern, five-storey residential building, the FORMEL+SKIN flagship store also comes with an on-site clinic. The interior design, created by Berlin-based creative practice Weiss—heiten Studio, is an extrapolation of the brand’s empirical philosophy, resulting in a restrained palette of materials and colours, and a design that’s functional and understated.
Large floor-to-ceiling glass not only allow in floods of daylight, while also also allowing passers-by ample peeks of the interior, signalling FORMEL+SKIN‘s transparent operations along the way. Entering the premises, shoppers find themselves in the retail area, furnished merely with a tripod metal counter and matching tiered wall-mounted shelving stretching all the way to the back of the space. Further inside, a lounge and waiting area is situated, demarcated by curtains and furnished with understated elements. The lounge is conceived as a flexible environment and boasts adaptable tables and movable furnishings. Polished concrete flooring ties in all sections of the store. The spatial versatility of the lounge allows for staging community events, talks, or product presentations. At the back of the space, a dedicated skin-scanning room, as well as several consultation rooms for ongoing dermatological care can be found, all facing a green inner courtyard. © superfuture
