The Manner hotel by Hannes Peer Architecture

Oozing a bold cinematographic chic – think Austin Powers, but infused with sophisticated European flair – The Manner has made a grand entrance in the upper echelon of New York City‘s hospitality scene. Occupying an existing multi-storey structure built in 1999, it has been entirely redeveloped, featuring a collaborative interior design by Milan-based practice Hannes Peer Architecture and chief design officer Verena Haller at hotel group Standard International. Mind you, The Manner originally is a luxury hospitality concept by Standard International, which late last year, was snapped up by Hyatt Hotels. The property features 97 rooms and suites, all in various sizes, in addition to a duplex penthouse, and upon the entering the lobby, The Manner‘s quirky yet elegant opulence instantly unfolds, captured by a myriad of materials, textures and hues. Further elevating the guest experience is a curated selection of artworks which dot the premises by artists, such as Nicholas Shurey, Giovanni de Francesco, Elvira Solana, Alex Proba and Ben Medansky.

The rooms and suites, which offer a refuge from the city’s hustle and bustle, are a seamless extension in terms of luxury and style. Full length mirrored walls, marble bathrooms, chandeliers, bespoke Italian fabrics and an integrated audio system add up to the sense of luxury living. Custom furniture pieces blend function with aesthetic sensibility, emitting both a nostalgic and contemporary feel. Needless to say, the 1,800 sq.ft. (167 sqm.) duplex penthouse lays it on thick for guests who love to live large. Located on the twelfth and thirteenth floors, the aesthetic takes ample cues from fashion designer Halston‘s renowned former offices in the Olympic Tower on Fifth Avenue, featuring a modernist setting that’s anchored by a deep red hue. A double-height window, paired with an oversized mirror, enhances the sense of grandeur, flooding the space with natural light and framing sweeping views of the city skyline.

A private wraparound terrace, complete with sunbeds, offers sweeping views of Manhattan. Upstairs, the bedroom features a travertine fireplace and a work desk, should work be unavoidable. Obviously, The Manner comes with a number of facilities which are a destination in their own right. Concepted as an all-day neighbourhood restaurant, The Otter serves a menu focused on simply prepared seafood using the freshest ingredients from carefully selected purveyors. One floor up, The Apartment is a homey, guest-only space with also a rich palette of materials, from the striking Pompeian red walls to a mahoganised plywood room divider. Here, a selection of breakfast sandwiches, fruit and global newspapers in the morning and snacks throughout the day. Tucked away on the second floor, Sloane’s is the hotel’s very own speakeasy, and it’s one dripping in style. Opening coming Spring is The Rooftop, another guest-only space where to sit-back and indulge. © superfuture
