Who we are

Creative practice benefits
from a wider conversation.

Founded in 2013 in Quebec, the Canadian Society for Applied Arts and Technology brings together practitioners, educators and researchers with an interest in how creative work is made, used and understood.

Our international membership spans academic and professional practice. It includes people working in visual communication, product and spatial design, materials, digital media and related fields. Members bring different methods and experiences to questions that rarely belong to a single discipline.

We connect that experience through competitions, publishing and opportunities to exchange ideas. The focus is practical: sharing work, discussing the decisions behind it, and helping good ideas reach a broader audience.

What we do.

Practice, discussion, exchange
01 / Competitions

A platform for applied design

The North American Applied Arts Design Competition (AADC) welcomes work across creative disciplines. Each edition sets out its submission categories, judging arrangements and awards in the competition brief.

Work worth looking at closely

Our journal brings together projects and perspectives from art and design. It gives readers a way to discover work beyond their own specialism and consider the thinking behind different approaches.
